Sep. 16th, 2011 03:15 pmWhen I stepped out of Mikado after lunch, it was raining. Just a little, maybe two minutes of sprinkling fat drops. They were cool. It felt so good. We decided to get celebratory "oh my fucking god it actually rained on us!" cupcakes.
It rained at Stacy's just a couple miles south, but it has not rained here. (I checked the buckets I have had sitting in the yard all summer.) But it did sprinkle on us and I have some hope that maybe one day it might actually rain again. How nice of the weather to calm down some right before the enormous Austin City Limits Festival of Standing in Zilker Park for All the Live Music Ever. May no one broil this year.
Driving around the neighborhood, one could mistake it for autumn. But those burning colors of red, yellow and brown are not seasonal or natural here. The leaves are dying and falling off in great waves, like nothing I've ever seen. I am genuinely concerned that large numbers of the trees in my neighborhood may die without some serious rain. Many are leafless. Many were broken in the winds at the beginning of the month.
The clouds are nice. I hope they stay.
