farmers market times
Oct. 22nd, 2011 02:11 pmI woke up at 8:50am and was out of the house in six minutes. It just happens like that. I hate sleeping so much that when I wake up, I'm up and ready to be talking and doing things. Even so, I still didn't make it in time to buy duck eggs. Oh well. I scored free street parking and had an amazing aguas frescas made from coconut water, watermelon juice, lime and mint.
I did buy tons of beets from the same stand I picked last weekend, and some more of their sweet onions. Tomatoes didn't look pretty, but I just need them to fill out the borscht. I bought a big package of short ribs, grass fed beef from Richardson Farms, to roast for the soup. Short ribs are perfect, because they provide tasty meat and the bones make the stock. It's not really borscht weather but damn it is nearly the end of October already. I also bought Mike some cheese, some kind of raw milk Derby. Then some cheddarwurst and paprikawurst for sandwiches. Mmm wurst. I love sausage. It may be one of the best ways to eat meats ever devised.
In a little while, we're off to see Island of Lost Souls at the Alamo. I haven't seen it in ages and ages. It sounds perfect to watch an old black and white creepy feature with Bela Lugosi seems like a perfect October activity.
