on a perfect blue morning
Nov. 5th, 2011 11:10 amThis morning was glorious. Clear, cold, sunny & excellent for wandering the farmers market. I managed to avoid the football game crowd on the highway by going early and once again scored excellent street parking. My Hogwarts sweater was a bit too heavy as I was sweating by the end of my shopping. But I drove home with the windows down and sang along loudly to everything. I can't put an exact finger on why, but music always sounds better on the radio in the car. I also really enjoy that new song from Bush "The Sound of Winter." (Randomly, 101X plays Bush all the time. Of all the bands of my teen years it seems an odd choice but I really like.)
Anyhow, Andrew Zimmerman was at the market this morning, wandering around with a camera crew. I only mention this because he impeded my path to excellent bunches of beets. Beets for roasting! I also picked up some beef for chili from the same meat place I patronized last week, with that hormone free grass fed super happy beef. I also found someone with nice packages of ground lamb, so that will also be for chili. Some fresh little 1015 onions and a basket of the most adorable tiny cherry tomatoes in a rainbow of colors also found their way into my bag. I picked up salted caramel pear butter & some fresh baguettes for snacking. Finally, I also scored a jar of veal stock from Dai Due to use in my soups and things.
To celebrate the morning, I had some excellent coffee, a breakfast taco full of migas and more of that watermelon/coconut water/lime/mint aquas frescas. A perfect breakfast. I almost don't want to ever eat anything again, it was that tasty. Worth getting up and leaving the house for sure.
Last night we had dinner with James at the new Polvos north. (Migas for dinner!) There were free margaritas and Johnny Deftone was playing again, which always makes dinner excellent. It is nice to see them busy, though I think they were short a waiter last night. I briefly saw
redstapler who was celebrating the arrival of a new KitchenAid mixer.
We watched some Downton Abbey and oh merciful heavens it gets me anxious wondering what will happen next. We also watched the newest episodes of Beavis & Butthead which were great. Those dudes haven't changed at all. Still haven't scored. Still watching TV. Watching them make fun of MTV's "reality" programming as well as some music videos was choice.
How all that prompted another nightmare in which I had a baby is beyond me. But I would like these dreams to stop because they freak me out. Her name was Vivian.
I think I need to start making a holiday card list. I will make a separate post for that. I want to figure out how many stamps I need to buy.
