rumhams ahead

Last night we learned the origins of Rum Ham, with Danny DeVito's plaintive cries of "Rum ham!" Truly a story for the ages. A disturbing story. In honor of Rum Ham, we had Rumhamsgiving, in which a ham was brined in rum and smoked and the gravy was made of rum and doctor pepper. It was quite incredible and tender. Everyone brought sides and desserts, so there was a ton of delicious food. I think our calendars should now include Rumhamsgiving as the lead up to the great winter holiday of Festivus. And people think TV never made any great cultural contributions to our lives! Hah!

Seriously, that ham was delicious. Eric made an Alton Brown style smoker out of garden pots and a hacked hot plate. I kind of want to make one now myself.

Currently, it is raining, which means I am very unlikely to haul my tired sorry self out to the market. My back is killing me from pulling a rhomboid muscle a couple days ago. Ugh.

I bought nothing yesterday. We're thinking about doing some charitable contribution Christmas gifts this year.
