The FedEx guy delivered a package of something or other just recently. I gave him a butter cookie and he was really excited. Sometimes it is the smallest things that make the day better.

I didn't read quite as much as I would have liked
over the year. (I blame a sort of mental fog produced by the horrible summer heat) I'm about halfway through
House of Mirth right now and it seems a good way to end the year. This year I read a couple Wharton novels I put off taking for ages for the silly, sentimental reason that the idea that there would never be any more novels "new" to me was so sad. I love Wharton's work. I find it effortless, elegant, full of life and zest and a keen eye for details. Frankly I find Wharton superior to all her contemporaries, Henry James included.
Last night was our fourth wedding anniversary and our fifth year of knowing each other, which makes this the longest running romantic relationship of my life. We went to dinner at Frank, which is a restaurant devoted to hot dogs and bacon located right next door to the place where we met on the street. We ate really damn good hotdogs, and dessert was a chocolate chip bacon cookie with coffee ice cream and candied bacon crumbles. Heavenly.
I am so profoundly lucky. I still can't believe sometimes that I have a husband who loves me as much as he does. (You should probably love Mike too, because his quiet example makes me want to be a better person in many ways and other people benefit from that.) I look forward to many more adventures with him.

Also, Squishables. And random contests. Anyhow. Though ostensibly I have a DW account, I've never really gotten into using DW and I can't even remember the last time I logged into it.
