salt water
Aug. 19th, 2012 01:44 amI didn't bother re-dying my hair before I came out here, which was a good choice. One day of swimming in the ocean has stripped a ton of the color out. It's a peculiar shade now, almost gray. I am only a little crisp from the sun, and I'm hoping it will fade by tomorrow.
We spent the morning at Torrey Pines, which was far less crowded than La Jolla looked yesterday. The water is delightfully cool, and it glitters. It really does. As expected, I am absolutely terrible at any sport related activity so riding waves was ridiculous. I only smacked myself in the face once with the board though. Mostly I bobbed around, got knocked over a lot and watched the helicopters fly around. I can see why people like the ocean so much. It is certainly beautiful. The saltiness is strange.
Then we ate some In 'N Out burgers and looked at the view from the top of a small mountain.
I spent the afternoon talking to my friend's mom, who is perhaps the most quintessential California hippie pagan life coach you could imagine. She's very sweet and got me a beer to drink in the shower this evening. That's some serious hospitality.
So much of this trip feels very surreal.
