I'm lost and I'm found
Jul. 15th, 2013 04:49 pmI got a really awesome postcard from
dine! Mike took one look at it and said "Yep, your friends know you." It has these cute little monster/robot-y looking creatures. Thank you!
Over the weekend I went to the Summerland show. Everclear, Live, Filter and Sponge on one ticket - it was like reliving 1995 in one concentrated burst. It was the closest I will ever get to being fifteen again. Any worries I had about them being older and slower were burned away in the incandescent fire of the performances. The music vibrated my sternum in the way I remember it from those shows at Liberty Lunch. They rocked in that way that makes live music seem holy and magic. The entire crowd sang, a tremendous echoing roar. It was so very, very good. It felt like one of those things I will remember for a long time. The highlight of it for me was Sponge's set, and when they sang my favorite song "Plowed." Vin, the singer, ran over to the stage near where I was standing. He climbed on the security wall and fans had to hold his legs steady. He leaned over and sang to us. He leaned right down and sang the end a second time, staring right into my eyes. It's that moment you dream about when you're young and in love with bands and it was really something.
I accidentally ran into Sponge outside. That was extra special. I got them to sign my ticket because it was the only thing in my pocket. They were really kind, and sort of amazed that I was old enough to have seen them in 1995. We joked about our grey hairs. (I found four right before I left the house) The glee of that made it easy to ignore how much my knees hurt from jumping up and down on the concrete floor all night. At least this place was air conditioned. One of my abiding memories of Liberty Lunch was the broken ceiling fans.
The Moody Theater is beautiful and a really fantastic venue. I want to see more shows there.
