fifty questions

1:What eye color do you find sexiest?
Blues, greens - bright ones.
2:White, milk, or dark chocolate mocha?
Dark chocolate everything.
3:If you could get a Sharpie tattoo on your back, what would it be?
Circuit board lines.
4:Did you grow up in a small or big town? Did you like it?
As much as we try to pretend it isn't, Austin was and is a big town. I used to look out the window on long cross-Texas car trips and think about how crazy it would make me to live in those empty, small places alongside 71. I like the complexity of the city.
5:Your favorite adult as a child? (and not your parents, if they were your favorite)
I was very friendly with adults because I was a weird kid who read too much. When my mother went back to university and made friends, they were a little surprised to find this kid reading the same books they were. I was pretty fond of Shelley even though she had a bratty awful daughter my sister's age. She never talked down to me, and we shared a love of fantasy novels.
6:What kind of smoothie sounds really good right now?
One made of coconut, lime, avocado and orange. Fuck bananas they are gross.
7:Most embarrassing moment from your elementary school years?
The day the school nurse lined everyone up in the hall and weighed us by the front doors. I remember the kids in line next to me making fun of my friend Tracy for being heavy, and the whole thing was full of shame and misery. I don't even know why they did this.
8:Most embarrassing moment from your middle school years?
All of it? Ugh. Perhaps the time the really awful language arts teacher accused me of plagiarism and berated me over an assignment. She refused to believe I had done it myself.
9:Most embarrassing moment from your high school years?
High school was a horror show. Probably failing my marching band test.
10:Pirates or ninjas? Why?
Ninjas, for the grace and dedication and rigor.
11:Have you ever climbed a tree more than twenty feet off the ground?
I don't know if I ever got that high. I climbed a lot of trees though.
12:Did you like swinging as a child? Do you still get excited when you see a swing set?
Yes, yes, yes. If we had a bigger yard, I'd install a fancy adult swingset/jungle gym.
13:If you could have any pet in the world, illegal or not, what would you get?
I would feel weird about having some beautiful wild creature as a pet. Maybe just a mountain lion friend who would come by and visit.
14:What's your most favorite part of your body?
Eyes. I lucked out in the eye color department.
15:What's your most favorite part of your personality?
I'm interested in things, and I like to learn.

17:Have you ever watched the Superbowl all the way through?
I don't think so. I have vague memories of going to a Superbowl party at someone's house as a kid but I think I spent all my time watching their kid play on his Game Boy.

Not really no.
19:What's the most delicious food you've ever eaten in your life?
The desserts at Parkside and Olive & June. They are masterworks of flavor and texture and colors. I ate this chocolate Fernet mousse with chocolate cake crumbles, a mint & blood orange sorbet, grapefruit sauce and citrus supremes recently that was the most exquisite chocolate mint dessert I've ever had. Once at Parkside I had a giant orb of peach ice cream filled with whipped cream, fresh peaches and strawberries, pistachio angel food cake and some kind of crumble. Heaven.
20:Margarine or butter? Which did you grow up with?
Butter. Because margarine is weird.
21:Whole, skim, 1%, or 2% milk? (Did you know they make 1 1/2% milk?)
I'm usually one or two percent. I don't like whole or skim.
22:Which continents have you been on?
North America and Europe.
23:Do you get motion sickness? Any horror stories?
Not as bad as I used to - long drives in Texas summer from one end of the state to the other. I think the worst was the year I came down with chicken pox on my return from Houston. I recall rolling out of the car and throwing up on the yard.
24:Backpacks or satchels?
Backpacks.
25:Would you wear a rainbow jacket? A neon yellow sweater? Checkered pants?
Probably the rainbow jacket and checkered pants - I'm going to nix the sweater because neon yellow just isn't my thing.
26:What was your favorite cartoon growing up?
He-Man.
27:If you had to have a cow or a pig, which would you take? Why?
A cow. Cows are sort of peaceful and zen.
28:If you had to look at one city skyline for the rest of your life, which would it be?
Tokyo. It looks like the future.
29:Longest plane ride you've ever been on?
I think my flight to Amsterdam was some 12 hour nightmare.
30:The latest you've ever slept?
Sleeping late makes me feel weird and gross. Never past noon.
31:Would you buy a sweater covered in kitten pictures? Would you wear it if someone gave it you for free?
I wouldn't buy one. I might wear it around the house.

Yeah, I'm really bad about doing that.

35:If you had to move to another country, where would you move?
The Czech Republic. It's beautiful there.

Haven't had Nepalese or Ethiopian. Love Korean and Vietnamese.
37:Small, liberal arts school or public university? Why?
I went to a state university which at the time was the biggest in the country. Lot of variety there. I liked it.
38:A relationship with love or one with sex?
Love over sex. I've had some pretty good sex, but that doesn't touch the bigger stuff in life.
39:Do you eat enough vegetables?
No. I should probably work on that.
40:Do you like horror movies? How about thrillers?
I don't enjoy a lot of horror movies because the uncomfortable anxiety of them is not pleasurable to me. There has to be some insanely wonderful visual aesthetic or acting or something to keep me watching. I also really really loathe the sort of ugly torture porn thing that's become big in horror movies over the past several years as they try harder and harder to shock. Thrillers can be good if the story is intriguing or again there's something to hook me in. I'll take even a mediocre thriller over most horror movies.
41:Would you scratch a crotch itch in public?
That seems awkward? Why would you do that? No, I think I would excuse myself.
42:Do you swear in front of your parents?
Not really.
43:Coolest thing you've ever been for Halloween?
Andy Warhol.
44:If you could change your natural hair color, would you? To what?
All the time. Though really I wish it would just go all white and be done with it.

I am married. I didn't think I would be again, but whoops. Never kids. I've never wanted that path. At this point it is physically impossible which is a huge relief.
46:Do you use a reusable water bottle? If not, you should.
Uh, yes? When I drink water out of a bottle?

Cities, with the occasional visit to nature.
48:Have you ever used something other than "makeup" as makeup? (Like paint? Markers?)
No. I've never worn much make up ever.

My life is overall pretty good and allows me a lot of things I didn't think would ever be possible. So that's pretty awesome. I exceeded my reading goal this year. That's really all.
