midnight on the other side of the world
Aug. 20th, 2014 01:39 pmDAY FOURTEEN: a song from your childhood
Why even stop at one song? Today you're getting an entire album.
I distinctly remember the long drives across Texas in the blue Suburban. There were a handful of cassettes my parents would put in the stereo. One of them was Fleetwood Mac's Tango In The Night album, which could can listen to entirely on youtube if you want. I found it for $5 on Amazon and bought a copy this afternoon.
So I have these memories of Highway 71 set to the sound of these songs. My parents had a pretty decent musical taste. I grew up listening to Fleetwood Mac, Don Henley, The Eagles, The Doors, The Rolling Stones, The Steve Miller Band and all kinds of the great rock music of the 60's and 70's and early 80's.
Trying to pick a favorite song on this album is hard. It was an album that showed me songs were stories, out loud instead of on paper. But I think it will be "Isn't It Midnight?" because it was haunting to my eight year old self. I find it remains so.
