the things take time
Feb. 7th, 2015 01:34 pmLast week I went to New York, to see an incredible bit of theater and hang out with one of my longest, best friends. It was a glorious good time. All these years visiting Racheline and I've never been in winter! The streets were rimmed with dirty snow and I loved it. Even the cold was bearable. I'm fat, so I'm more more insulated to the temperature. Often I was sweating under my jacket and my hoodie. Though I did buy gloves. Of course I as not wearing my gloves when I plopped into a mound of blank snow in Greenwood cemetery.
Walking on snow is WEIRD. It makes a crunchy sound like sand. And you never think about how wet it is going to be. I liked it.
We walked and ate and talked pretty much for three days. It was a joy. The production of Let The Right One In was unsettling, and wondrous. The set was beautiful stark tree trunks and fake snow, with the metal playscape just to the side. It veered from creepy and violent to strangely tender, and had this incredible music. I loved it, and the more I've thought about it the more I wish I could see it again.
My flights were largely uneventful and comfortable, which is quite a rarity. I am glad of that.
The day after I got back I came down with some horrendous bacterial thing that left me queasy and pained. I tried to just power through but had to give up on Thursday after three days of being unable to keep food down. The antibiotics have helped, in that the pain is mostly gone. But my stomach is still very unhappy. I did have coffee for the first time in about five days though and that was nice.
Apparently this antibiotic can make your tendons hurt, so they told me no gym until next week. That's cool. I do not feel well enough to run right now.
I'm writing, as usual.
