rain rain rain

Raining madly today. 13 inches in South Austin. The city is flooding in places, and power has been out sporadically across town. Children were held at schools for hours, because it was too risky for buses to cross certain streets. Lake Travis is up 8 feet today. Lake Austin is swamping the hike and bike trails. There were tornados spotted up til this evening. They even shut down 183 North because the rain melted all the dirt piles from the road construction onto the asphalt. People were stuck for up to five hours.

And during all this, people were still showing up to the store. I shake my head.

The power flickered often, and I worried it would just plunge us all into complete darkness. No managers at all in the store today, and of course no one knows where the flashlights are or what to do. Such fun. It was only sprinkling when I left though.

It wasn't so drastic in Dallas. I wonder if it is coming our way. Glad you are safe. :)

It did get pretty crazy today. They finally sent me home because the weather made me feel miserable, but there was some talk of closing the store at one point (briefly). The Amy's Ice Cream on the Drag did close, and Cheapo's Discs is purportedly flooded. We had to evacuate our religion section, anyway, as it is notoriously leaky.
