The Fur Hat! Oh lord that is one of my all time favorites. That story makes me giggle out loud while reading. And Bulgakov is another one of my favorites. He just does such amazing things.
The thing I admired most about Nabokov was his intimate and complete grasp of two very different languages. That he could write with such style in Russian and English blows me away.
I took a Dostoesvky class a couple semesters ago and it was quite entertaining. At one point my professor threatened violence against a student who wouldn't stop berating him about C&P. Very fun. Be sure to get the new Pevear/Volokhonsky translations. They have excellent notes.
From what I remember, we lived in a nice little neighborhood with sidewalks. I want to say 41st street. It was near my elementary school. You know, I really should see Luboock again one of these days. I haven't been there in years.
