While eating soup at La Madeline last night, I was telling Gene about the weekend James and I redecorated his father's apartment. We had been left without any adult supervision, with plenty of Dr Pepper and Mountain Dew, and we were bored. I remember it being very Pop Art, right down to the pyramid of Campbell's soup cans and the playing cards I glued to the ceiling above the bath.
Gene looked at me, with that disbelieving sort of glance, and pointed out any normal teenagers would have spent the weekend having sex. I laughed, because it really never had crossed our minds. James and I were like brother and sister, really.
