Miserably humid today for the walk around Brno. It rained last night, and I hoped it would be delightfully cool all day. Alas.

Slept well for the first time. Perhaps because I had my first Coke in a week? I have found a couple of potraviny open late. Food at the Menza is alright. Yesterday was this awful fried cauliflower. One shouldn't eat cauliflower in the first place, I think. I make do with vegetables, and bread. Can't bring myself to drink the milk they offer. It is thick in a way I find disturbing. I do not like milk in the first place.

Class alternates between frustration and interest. I do not think I will end up learning many new things, but perhaps I will have a better grasp of grammar and more vocabulary.
Met another American girl, Emily. Her husband is a literature professor at the University of Alabama, and he is on a sabbatical to research in the Czech Republic for a year.

There is an opera house here, and I am hoping there is something playing in the next month. Barring that, I think I will spend a lot of time in the movie theater.

FRIED CAULIFLOWER?

That just sounds so very, very wrong. And I like cauliflower...

Glad to hear that things are picking up!

Isn't that because it's not put through the same pasteurization process as the west? When I was in Romania, everyone would boil milk on the stove, skim off the top, and drink it warm or then put it in the fridge.

I admire you greatly. I do not have the guts to leave the country by myself. Don't give up, no matter how hard things can be.

It is indeed very, very wrong. Some vegetables are meant to be fried, like okra and pickles. I guess it could have been okay, but it tasted like it sat under the heat lamps for too long.

Probably. It is more like cream than milk, to me. I don't like to drink it warm either. Seems to be a Slavic thing, to avoid cold beverages.

Thanks. It is hardly courage on my part, more contrary than one might think. I tend to throw myself headlong into bizarre adventures with too little planning ahead of time.
