This is Texas

There's nothing like standing outside at 5am, with the storm coming in, the leaves blowing down out of the trees and the wild sound of the wind, the first tiny specks of rain on my skin and the smell of earth and sky and water all mixed together. This is Texas.

Wonderful imagery, I must say... It makes me wistful for watching storms blow up over the atlantic during pre-dusk hours. Perhaps the most surreal weather experiences I have had were sitting in a chaise lounge on the outer banks an hour or so prior to sunset, watching gray metallic clouds fold over the horizon, reflecting orange and pink with an ominous bluesteelgray below; the smell of salt, fresh water, and sand mingling in a stiff breeze; watching a dark curtain meet the tide and close in around me, deluge: all the while, the sun is still on my back.

Sorry... didn't mean to try to wax poetical. I'll never do it again, I swear. I'll take a smoke and get humanised now...

I've heard more random poetry from my friends this weekend... mercury's out of retrograde isn't it? It's neat.

That sounds like such a moment. I'd like to spend some time by the ocean one day. I've only ever seen it briefly, from the edges of NYC and walking on the beaches of Normandy, barefoot in the cold water on the shore.
