You are "4am" by Our Lady Peace. You've
gone through your life without showing much
emotion, giving off an impression that many
people have disliked. Youv'e blown it off until
now, but have suddenly realized that something
isn't right, and desparately want to find a way
to make it right. Unfortunately, time is
running out for this. You're upset about your
past, yet not willing to completely open up to
someone after your years of apathy.

Which song representing Lucius Malfoy are you? (Harry Potter-based quiz)
brought to you by Quizilla

That's close enough I suppose.

I'm just going to stare at my screen for awhile, and alternate between seriousness and and emptiness. Because I'm really more profoundly upset by this than I ever imagined. Because really, did I think I would live through two space shuttle explosions in less than twenty years? And I know that worldwide, there have been many accidents and that it is more dangerous than most other occupations. But it is strange, to look at these photos and feel five fucking years old again, and hear my kindergarten teacher's voice in my head saying "Oh God, Oh my God."

It is painfully sad for me as well. The manned space program has been called "window dressing" by those who don't understand that the sum of the parts of robotic space exploration can never equal the sum of the parts of manned space exploration.

Manned space exploration represents more than raw data. It means hope, dreams, the belief that there is always something more for us to know. Seven people are not that many in the big scheme of things, but symbolically they--and the entire manned space program--mean a whole lot more to us as Americans and to us as humans than just seven dead astronauts.

May we get back in space sooner rather than later.

It is a dream, and such an important one for humanity to have. To strive, to reach, to yearn for something beyond what we know... to me space is that.
