I can't stress enough how beautiful the opening of Titus is, with that blue cast to the stones of the arena, Anthony Hopkins and his brilliant voice, the movements of the soldiers, and that strange silent young boy. If I were making movies, that's the kind of thing I should love to make.

The dinner and death at the end of the film is also an incredibly well choreographed thing. When Saturnine runs across the table top, the camera and the music and the color of it all is incredible.

I should read Shakespeare again, sit down and read it for the majesty of the work instead of with the goal of yanking a paper topic out of a scene or a theme. It's been a very long time really.

Something else I want to read again is Antigone. The movements of Titus remind of a production I saw years ago during One Act competitions that was rather stark and strange. They had a big chorus carrying staffs with skulls, and all scene switches were carried out under red lights.

I need to make new icons. Still waiting for inspiration.
