things I forgot to write down today

The car is well again. New plugs for the engine. Thank goodness I have an honest friendly mechanic.

Mike told me about a lovely Czech band, the Ecstasy of Saint Theresa.

Should I worry when I get dizzy?

I think too much about lives that were not and are not and will not be.

I finished the Rachilde book, a disturbing piece of work.

I don't want to get up tomorrow.

I, too, am haunted by the lives that will not be. And by this I mean my own. I think that Judas took the sovereigns out of disappointment; he didn't betray Christ but himself. Lately, I identify with him -- I, too have traded what is precious for money, or for the promise thereof in the shape of a "career." I want to make enough, I say, so that I may provide for my daughter, and yet what would I most like to bequeath to her? Certainly not a material perspective, not an absorption with the illusion of security. I would like her to grow-up believing that the only map is etched on her heart by the great spirit of this life, and if she follows it faithfully, she will be given all that she needs.
Well. I am sad tonight. I heard of a friend's death today, and so I am haunted in more ways than one. Good night, Amanda.

I always thought that band was Hungarian. I stand corrected. You're right, they are lovely. AFter Crying is a lovely cello-based actual Hungarian band. I don't know any good Czech recommendations :(

My sympathies for your friend. It is so hard to lose them. Take care of yourself.
