interview meme strikes again!
Jan. 19th, 2004 02:10 pm1) Where in Austin do you live, and how long have you lived here?
I'm currently living just southwest of the 183/IH35 junction. Not the best neighborhood in town, but a comfortable apartment for a cheap price. I've lived in Austin since 1987, back in the day where 183 had stoplights up north. Most all of the time I've spent in Austin I've lived in the North, Northwest suburbs.
2) How long did you date your husband before you were married?
It was only about a month and a half, two months before we were engaged. I started seeing Alan in the end of May, was engage mid July and married by mid December. Never let anyone tell you that a year is required for wedding planning!
3) How old are you?
I will turn 24 this year. Honestly, I never thought I would live this long. Sounds ridiculous, but I had a morbid fear that I wouldn't live to see 20 when I was younger. In 1997 I did almost die, and spent a lot of time in the hospital after a suicide attempt. I am grateful for all the years since then.
4) Where kind of work do you do?
I am a Map Analyst. I examine FEMA flood maps and determine if properties require flood insurance. Our clients are banks and the mortgage industry. As determined by federal law, anytime a person or business purchases property or refinances they must have a flood zone certification. The basic process is fairly simple, but can be complicated at times. Most often, I certify properties in Colorado, though I've worked several other states like Iowa, Arizona, California and Texas. Iowa is my favorite, because it has the least flooding I've encountered so far!
While it is a good job, I don't plan on making a lifetime commitment to flood maps. This year I hope to take the GRE and apply to graduate programs. My BA is in Czech Studies, with a minors in Russian and journalism. I graduated from the University of Texas in 2002.
You know the drill. Leave a comment an a request to be interviewed if you would like me to ask you questions. I really dig this meme, so ask away even if you haven't been around long.

Date: 2004-01-19 03:49 pm (UTC)I do work for First American Flood Data, in the big red brick building where Burnet hits Mopac. One of my coworkers once sang to the tune of "Sweet Home Alabama":
'Needed a plat for Alabama
The PLS just wouldn't do
I'm just a poor map analyst
Does my scaling bother you, tell the truth
Sweet Home Flood Data
Where the plats are so small"
