Otto Urban spoke about David Cherny in my Prague class, and brought slides of some of his fantastic work. Apparently he knows him well, and often stores some of Cherny's sculptures in his barn back in the Czech Republic. Cherny is the most famous artist in the Czech Republic, and lives in Prague. He did The Killing Day in London years ago, the giant faceless black babies in New York (which now adorn the Prague TV Tower) and a fantastic interpretation of St. Vaclav. I think he and Havel get along. His work is very thought provoking.
Otto Urban in effect!
(Anonymous) 2001-04-01 10:32 am (UTC)(link)Hey, stumbled on the page, doing research on the Metronome up in Holesovice Letna Park. I had to respond to this- Had Otto five years ago at Univerzita Karlova. We used to joke about his famous "And now, I must go" at the end of class. Is Pani Profesorka Robalova (Ratchetova as we knew her) still around? You are so lucky to be in the land of cobblestones. Have you been to Vysehrad with Otto yet? THAT is a great tour.
