- holy freaking cow. This looks awesome. You know, Will Smith is sometimes a really awesome actor. Yay for sci-fi movies!

Shaolin Soccer
- oh man oh man oh man oh man. What a freaking amazing movie!

Watching those improved my mood immensely. I have also heard many good things about Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and I might go see it despite my aversion to Jim Carrey.

George may still have the DVD of the imported Shaolin Soccer (it came out like 10 years ago overseas). It is indeed quite amazing. I hope the 'americanization' process doesn't change things up too much.

'God of Cookery' by the same people is also required viewing. It's about a man who takes cooking to martial art extremes. very funny.

Spotless Mind sparks good conversation. It gets you thinking, about persistence of memory . . .

Oh my God, Shaolin Soccer is coming to theatres! I LOVE that movie! Now maybe I'll actually be able to get it on DVD somewhere, rather than having to scour the streets of Chinatown and still not be able to find even a bootleg copy.

I don't want to be the only downcast voice , but I hope that Azimov needs a kidney or something and sold the rights to pay for it. Taking that short story collection and turning it into a Will Smith making gay jokes and talking like a L.A. rap artist/cop does not, IMHO make a good tribute to the book.

That aside, it does look good by it's own merits as a story. I just wish they would have made a movie of the series of short stories the way Carvers " Short Cuts " was done.

I think I'm officially old now :)

I don't like Jim Carrey either, but Eternal Sunshine was incredible. Even if you hate him, you forget it's him. He doesn't even look the same. And the cinematography is so good, that in itself makes it worth seeing. Then when you start thinking about the things the movie is trying to talk about, ie the persistence of memory, the potential for redemption and what has to happen to achieve a new beginning, then it gets even better.

I think you should go see it. In fact, I'd like to see it again myself.

FYI-ness

Odd bit of movie trivia- the movement coach for the robots was Paul Mercutio, from Strictly Ballroom.
