There is a Chinese place two blocks from my apartment called "$1.11 Chinese" because all items are only $1.11. It is a college student's best friend :) Not the best quality though. There's more Asian food than anything else here. Most of it's good and cheap too. . .
Also all laws regarding pets refer to their owners as "human guardians." Because Berkeley loves animals. And I love you for taking care of your friends cat. (I miss my kittydumplingpie Mickie)
