This is the worst part.

I took a nap and woke up with my jaw more swollen than before. There's a definite lump now, and the pain is not only making it almost impossible to chew, it's giving me a headache. Something is clearly not right. If it weren't for the fact my friends would probably not speak to me again, I'd hide in bed for the next two days.

My mother had a half dozen hydrocodone left over from her dental surgery, which she sent along with four roses from her garden. So I'll probably get through the weekend until I can find a dentist who takes our weird insurance that isn't really insurance and find out why I'm in agonizing pain and how much of my bank account it will take to make it stop.

Fuck.

It's probably infected. It's also possible that it coming in has caused a little blood clot. If you're not on lots of other painkillers, an asprin might solve it.

have you tried a heating pad on/under the sore area? That can takes the edge off my Mysterious Mouth Ailment (tendonitis? Abscess? Who knows, for I'm uninsured and SOL) and makes it bearable with painkillers. When I'm suffering a flareup, I live on hot liquids (because I can't chew) and sleep with a heating pad on my pillow. It helps a lot.

I shall have to try that. Mostly I've been using ice and cold beverages to try and numb it up. Though we were discussing my friend's job at a medical clinic and the crazy woman addicted to painkillers who keeps doing more outlandish things to try and land a prescription. Last time she burned her behind with a heating pad.

Maybe I could just get the cat to curl up next to my head?

No, actually, that's good news, because that can happen just from the gum getting torn as the tooth comes it. It may mean a course of antibiotics and no extraction. Additionally, you may be able to get those from a regular doctor.

Oh indeed, a purring cat would have much the same effect, I think. :)

As some heating pads tend to pump out more heat when there's pressure on them (don't ask me why, but mine do) I usually put a thin towel over the top, to prevent from being burned whilst I sleep. It also helps with any unfortunate drooling. ;)

I am thinking the cat would be most useful. Whenever I turn on the heating pad, the cat tends to gravitate toward it anyhow.

I shall now construct a nest of blankets, towels and a heating pad!
