Yesterday, I had coffee with Warhol. Or rather I had coffee, and then had a blackberry soda with Warhol. Close enough. It was much fun. Karen, Melynda and I taught him how to play mah-johngg. Hopefully when I come back to America this summer, Jennifer will be here and she can play too. Really, I just want everyone to play mah-johngg.

This morning I helped Karen clean her apartment, which has been without electricity for a week now. (Since her psycho ex-roommate wouldn't pay off the electric company and her current roommates are idiots. Long story.) So, as expected, the fridge and freezer were filled with new biological weapons-in-the-making. *shudder* We had to tie bandanas over our faces, and hold our breath, and work with our eyes half shut. It was not fun. But we saved Marie's pyrex dishes and now it should be safer in the kitchen. We opened all the windows and aired the place out. Thank God she is moving in two weeks.

Ate lunch at Highland Mall, where a small child beauty pagent was being held. Those things make me sick to my stomach. Not only because they encourage judgement based on physical attributes and cattiness. But because it seems our culture is hell-bent on sexualizing younger and younger children. JonBenet Ramsey was only a tip of a vast iceberg. There is nothing wrong with playing dress up with your kids, or making them look nice. God knows kids get dirty enough and you need some nice family pictures to hand around to family. But putting your children in miniature adult clothes and covering their faces with makeup is somehow repulsive. Children are not little adults. (Though it's taken the medical community a long damn time to realize that.) And we wonder why there are so many perverted twisted people out there preying on children... sigh.

I think I will go to the grocery store with Patrick, buy some oranges, hang out at the Arboretum and talk. Maybe eat ice cream. I need a break.

mahjongg is wonderful. when i worked at the life science library i used to go every friday with the library people and do something in the union... i hated bowling so i turned the tide to mahjongg playing for a while. b. has a good set. he got it in san francisco. i miss b. and richard pond (that is the hippy guy that works in life science at UT bytheway) and wei-wei, and martin and joanna, and beverly richard's wife and bonnie from the classics library.......... :~( but i agree about mahjongg :)

There is something about being called grad student wannabe that makes me want to fall out of my chair laughing. Scary to think in a year I'll be like you, living in my office. :P
