In the misty darkness before dawn, I put on my black fur coat and drove out into the early morning traffic. In the blur of golden and white lights, Nine Inch Nail's "Head Like a Hole" poured out of the speakers and every word I sang was visible in the frost. For five minutes, flying down the highway, I felt young and infinitely reckless. All my ghostly voices rode shotgun, and we sang to the rising sun invisible in the blue sky.
