You've raised a point that I've always wondered about, balancing between the love of the spouse and the kids. Because I'm not a very maternal person on some level, I have no idea how that would be done. Perhaps I am selfish person, but I do not want to share him! :P
I think that there is an assumption in some areas that putting your marriage first means you are neglecting other relationships. I don't see it as a mutually exclusive thing though.
And really, I spend more time lording my mixer over everyone than my marriage!
