threeplusfireSaturdays are nice because they are a little slower than weekdays. You get small breaks between the calls.
10:01am
A neighbor calls to report that a mother is constantly calling her 12yo daughter a bitch and accusing her of “trying to get with her man.” Last week, the mother allowed her boyfriend to rape the child in her presence. The mother told the child to “be quiet and take it.” Now the mother is telling the neighbors they should keep the child.
10:33am
An anonymous father calls and accuses the mother of using meth. The mother leaves the child with the grandmother while she is doing drugs and we know nothing about the impact on the child. The father admits CPS took the child away in the past because the child swallowed some of the father’s drugs. The father hangs up before providing any identifying information.
10:54am
A woman calls, extremely emotional and running off at the mouth. She is friends with an elderly woman who has taken in her granddaughter and great granddaughter. The 6yo child is still wearing diapers and has an unknown medical condition. At first the caller is convinced the child has been molested because the doctor examined the child’s genitals but later admits it could be related to the medical condition. The child has been seriously ill and not eaten for two days. The mother refuses to take the child to the doctor and appears to lack parenting skills and empathy.

A grandmother calls to report that the parents are drug addicts who doze off with lit cigarettes in their hands and burn holes in the floor and furniture. The electricity has been cut off and the father is going to be arrested for tampering with the meters. The family is seven months behind on rent and has no food. The parents tried to sell drugs to the neighbors. The youngest child has never received any therapy for a birth condition and hence his legs are crooked. The grandmother is very hostile and angry towards me because previous CPS involvement did not result in the removal of the 10yo and 5yo children. A separate APS report was taken because the father is disabled.

A disabled woman calls to get help with prescription glasses. The caller has glaucoma and bipolar disorder, and is completely frustrated by a mix-up with her prescription. The caller has no money for glasses and is blind without them.
1:16pm
A foster mother calls because a child in their care is in the hospital. The ten day old child was exposed to cocaine, marijuana and benzodiazepine in the womb and has ongoing, known health issues. The child is very difficult to handle and currently dehydrated because he would not eat.
1:33pm
An extremely odd woman calls in anonymously to report a foster child sneaking out of the home in the middle of the night. The 13yo child hangs out with other teenagers in local parks between 11pm and 5am. The foster parents do not seem to know the child is getting out, along with their biological 17yo and 14yo daughters.

Another anonymous caller reports a mother that is possibly using drugs. The mother has said she can’t take care of the child and left the child with the grandparents. The grandparents have been taking care of the child for two months. There was no information at all about the kind of drugs the mother may be using or what impact that might have on the child.

A woman wanted to know why someone called CPS on her. She was referred to the local office and to take the matter up with her caseworker.

A 21yo mother with a 6 month old child needed a place to go. Her grandmother kicked her out of the house after an argument. The mother is working full time and going to school. She was referred to the 211 line and a local shelter.

One of frequent fliers, a middle aged man with mental retardation calls to say he stole numerous items from other residents at the facility. However he reported himself and now he’s angry that the staff go into his room to retrieve the stolen objects. The man is nearly incomprehensible.
4:02pm
Law enforcement calls to report that they have arrested the mother for DWI. She’s high on hydrocodone and other prescription drugs. She also has a large quantity of meth in her child’s backpack. Earlier today she was driving around with the 4yo child in the backseat. She has a history of drug involvement. The child is currently with the grandmother.

A caller wanted to reach her caseworker and was referred to the local office and the caseworker’s voice mail. The caller was very irate that she couldn’t reach someone on a Saturday afternoon.
5:06pm
A mentally retarded man called to report that his brother wouldn’t release his SSI checks or give him money for food. The caller has no food and is running out of medication. The brother threatens to lock the caller up for the rest of his life if he doesn’t stop bothering the brother for money. The last time the caller ate was this morning.
That first call killed me. It makes me so sad and disgusted, to think about that kind of person being a parent. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?

Roger was questioning some of my girls today because another girl in my program was reported missing by her parents almost a full two days after they last saw her. She's TWELVE. And is missing with her 24 year old "friend".
Boyfriend.
And the parents, Just. Gah.
