"If this had been a terrorist attack, we would all be dead."

I heard that quote from a police officer in New Orleans on the news this morning. My mother leaves the television, onstensibly to entertain the cats and more probably because of the idea that a house with noise is a house occupied and less likely to be robbed. So I often pass by CNN on the morning search for coffee.

Right after that, I saw Shrub the Incompetant leading his Homeland Security pet dog to the helicopter. I hope they fire that man. I hope they put him in stocks in the South, and tar and feather the bastard. Because this is shit. This is utter shit, and the more I see the more angry I am. All the tax dollars and secret plans and training and just what the fuck is going on here? But these people are poor and colored and heaven forfend we care about them. Heaven forfend Homeland Security and their brilliant plans take into account the most vulnerable parts of our population. Clearly, Homeland Security is only for those who can pay.

HEB had a very specific list of the things they would pack into trucks for the Red Cross today. So the shelves were almost bare of diapers, granola, tuna fish and bottled water. I picked up as many boxes of granola and cereal bars as I could stuff into my basket last night. I tired to buy one of everything, on the off chance that it might make someone happy to have oatmeal raisin and someone else will want the cocoa crispies cereal and milk bar. I just felt, stuffing my basket and hoping it would do some kind of good to think about damned granola bars.

The more I hear about him, the more I abhor him. I think he was golfing the day before yesterday. Shit, the least he could have done is stand by a Red Cross truck somewhere in the South and pretend like he gave a damn. And the fact that he said "Zero tolerance" for looters, even those who NEED food and water, pisses me off even more. Sorry. Feel very emotional about this today.
