update on Frank

I talked to my father this afternoon on my lunch break. He visited the hospital today to check on Frank. The good news is that Frank has stabilized enough for them to start doing surgery on things that aren't life-threatening like the broken bones and other injuries. He's still in bad shape but he has improved enough for these surgeries to even happen. That's a really good sign.

The bad news is that there may be a lot more brain trauma than they first thought. His frontal lobe is bruised up, and they are going to do more MRIs. It looks like Frank may be disabled as a result of all the trauma. He's certainly not going to get out of that bed and go back to work anytime soon.

The car insurance companies are being dicks, superb dicks. The other guy, the one who caused this and died, his company doesn't want to pay anything. Frank's wife has no transportation right now, as that was their only car. My father is pretty upset about it. He's building a wheelchair ramp for Frank's home. He called me today and asked me to look up information for any kind of assistance they might be able to get. I'm sure they will have to apply for SSI, but that takes forever.

It makes me feel so helpless and sad. I'm going to try and write up something so they will know all the right things to ask the hospital social worker, the things to point out if they try to get APS services, etc. I don't know what to do for them right now other than try to make it easier to help find services for when Frank comes home from the hospital.

No joke. So evil. The other guy clearly crossed into the oncoming lanes in front of dozens of people and smashed into Frank. Ugh.

Police report? I'm guessing, since there were police in that picture...

But yeah, LAW. YER. LAWYER. This is really what they're for. Get a good one, not an ambulance-chaser- go through the Texas Bar lawyer referral service. (http://www.texasbar.com/Template.cfm?Section=Selecting_a_Lawyer&CONTENTID=3836&TEMPLATE=/ContentManagement/ContentDisplay.cfm) Or through your city bar's lawyer referral service - I forget where exactly you live. Google "[city] Bar Association" and you should get there.

Hey… this is the law group that I am using… they have a branch in Austin but I do not have the numbers with me right now.

I have gotten really good recommendations about them and even had my brother in-laws father, who is a judge, to look into the firm and he also says that they have a good reputation.

Hey there, missed you at work today. Thinking about you on your special day. As you can see, I'm a live journal-er now. Hope your Dad and Frank and Frank's family are doing as well as can be expected.
