Tonight it was breakfast tacos, with sour cream and salsa verde. Tastiness.

Work went on, as it does. It was not so bad today. I think I've done about all I can for the trainee. She probably won't make the cut. Her hands shake all through every single call. I don't think she's able to handle the emotional content and that's why she's making the mistakes.

A year ago, I might have said I couldn't handle it. I don't know, things change. I hear some fucked up stuff, no doubt. But I can process that, most of the time. Some things get under my skin. The woman who put her gay teenage child in a mental hospital and now says she doesn't want him home, yeah. The woman who didn't report the sexual abuse of her child because her husband told her not to, yeah. That shit makes me so angry I could punch holes. But it goes, and these cases pass through. I don't follow them all the way to the end. I don't have to look these people in the eye.

I also don't get the death threats, so I suppose that's easier. The head honchos sent out an email about worker safety and it is a joke. Just, ugh. It's so nonspecific as to be useless.

One of the odd things, one of the little things, that I've missed about Tejas is the fact that I can't find a good miga (or migas at all, for that matter) in this branch of the mid-Atlantic. I've tried cooking them myself a fwe times, but they just don't seem to match up. I think the secret is the salsa and the well-seasoned, rarely-unused frying pan, neither of which I have readily available. Es la vida.

The seasoned skillet is a beautiful, wonderous thing. It makes everything better. Then of course, salsa. You have to have the salsa. You know, one of the reasons I came back home from Europe was the lack of migas. ;)

At juvie hall we had to watch a (cheesy as anything, called Shadows into Light) Mandatory Reporting training video. They showed CPS people taking calls and my first thought was, "That's like Amanda." It is amazing what you do, I can't imagine doing it 40 hrs a week.

Also, so terrible about the CPS worker, I hope the state starts putting protective measures in place.

We really care about our workers did not sound very convincing to me when I could take out more than half of the security guards in our building myself even if they were paying attention. There are a couple of little old lady guards that I feel like I should be walking to their cars so that they are safe,

Yeah, I'm not exactly sure the security guards are really "security." They sure aren't going to deter most people.
