let it go, the damage in your heart

Driving back into the land of not very tall mountains always fills me with a quiet joy. This place is so beautiful to me, the way at the top of the hill you can see the ribbons of cloud shadow across the trees. Driving on 36 was the best part of the morning. I saw a red tailed hawk carrying a big snake, the prairie chicken wildlife preserve sign, the big old white house with a red brick porch and horses in the yard. Traffic wasn't too bad until I hit Austin, three hours form door to door with one stop for gas and one stop for kolach at Hruska's bakery. Few things are as delicious as kolach.
I'm watching Baghdad ER, and it's so sad and hellish. They are so young. Melynda and I were talking last night about Bob, and how this doesn't seem real until someone you know is going over there. If I were Krista, I might have throttled Bob for re-enlisting. But you do what you have to do to be happy in this life. He gets deployed in October, and they should be getting married in November 2007 after she finishes school.
