chocolate cream pie
Jun. 29th, 2006 10:30 amI am so cool. The cream came together almost textbook perfect. I was so pleased. One moment I was whicking a frothy sort of mix, the next I was swirling thick cream. Though this is not something I should do on my own! The cream has to be strained to get out any egg or cornstarch lumps, and fortunately we have some nice wire mesh sieves. But I had no way to hold it over the bowl and pour at the same time! I so I hooked the handle of the sieve into the knob of my mixer, so the handle would be steady and supported by the edge of the mixing bowl. I managed to scrape my cream down into the sieve and keep it from flying everywhere but sheesh. Next time I need an assistant or a more stable rig.
The chocolate also melted well, and I got everything blended. It's cooling off now, before I put it in my cookie crust. Mmm, then in several hours there will be chocolate cream pie! I used this recipe. The only changes I made were to use 2 cups whole milk and 1 cup heavy cream in my mix, and to use all bittersweet chocolate. It seems to be working out dandy so far. I am inordinately pleased with myself.
