Marie Antoinette

It's not a period drama, it's not Merchant & Ivory, it's not a historical or political film. It makes me think of all the Gen-X films about people trying to find themselves or other existential brouhaha. It's an absolutely beautiful thing to watch, interesting and harrowing in that mental sort of way. A lot has been made of not showing the death of Marie, but I think a beheading would have been gratuitous blood. It couldn't really be more grim that the shot of her standing in a poorly lit foyer, alone.

Regardless, it is definitely worth watching.

People who talk in the theater incense me. As do people who won't let you over in traffic despite turn signals.

I really dont like the bit where they use modern music.It's too gimmicky, and it was stupid when they did it in "A Night's Tale", too.

If they had an option of seeing it without a soundtrack, I'd want to see it.(I still might, though.)

It seems less gimmicky in the film, and more a trait of Coppola's perceptions and filmmaking style. It really works in a way I was surprised by.

I like that it's so different form his work, and not, despite the modern music, at all about what Moulin Rouge was trying to achieve. At the same time, the film never could have been made without MR as a precursor.

The flaming firework initials especially seemed inspired.
