My car's robot brain was replaced, and then they replaced some of its nerves and veins. Apparently the real problem was in the wiring. Somehow, I am not suprised. The poor rental car guy thought I didn't like the car when I walked in to return it. He was sweet and offered to cut me a deal on a fancy weekend car sometime.

When I drove back to the office, the car felt better. It didn't do anything weird. It was all mine, sun roof included. Gods above but I am glad to have my car.

The VUE was really nice though. If I ever need to have a big car again, I think that might be the way to go. Plus, they are putting out Hybrid VUEs this year.

No wonder it was such a problem. Circulatory system ailments are always much more difficult to identify than are organ transplants.

I had sort of a sneaking suspicion about it, but hey I can't see my car's nervous system even when I crack the hood!

Thought of you today...

During one of my breaks at work, I read a Q&A bit in the automotive section (one reads whats available if one doesn't have time to prepare, after all). Some guy had written in to ask about a problem that sounded suspiciously like yours. His was a Ford F-150, I think.

Basically, the problem--whoever answered it in the paper thought--was probably that, even though this guy didn't have the security-system installed, all the wiring and contacts were in place for it. And if he had a leak or poorly sealed windshield, it could corrode the contacts and wiring, which would cause it to set off the horn/alarm when the temperature drops, even if there was no security system installed.

The dealership probably found much the same thing, but you *still* might want to ask precisely where the "brain" was, and if it might not be a bad idea to reseal the windshield (or other likely places where moisture might've gotten in to corrode wiring and contacts.

Of course, it might not have been anything like that.

But there you go.

I was thinking of you today.

You know, the upper seal on the windshield is loose. Hmmmm.
