There is something to be said for hearing that you look completely normal and healthy from a doctor. When my ob/gyn walked in, the first thing she said to me was "Oh my god, you've lost so much weight." I had forgotten that I was so much heavier, a budding alcoholic with high blood pressure and wildly depressed the last time I had an exam. It was kind of funny. My doctor is a thin, bird-like woman who talks almost non-stop. That is actually a plus in this situation. The last thing you want is a long awkward silence while you have someone sticking swabs and speculums up your vagina. Seriously. The other truly hilarious moment was when she exclaimed "Your breasts are so wonderful and in great shape!" So my reproductive organs look peachy keen, and I'm good for another year. I feel lucky to have a good ob/gyn, because it makes a huge difference. After tomorrow's dentist appointment I won't have to visit any medical professionals for awhile.
It's still grey and damp, but not quite as cold as it was yesterday. There's even a little sunlight. I was going to go buy some shoes, but the place near my house has apparently closed and vanished. Not feeling like dealing with the mall, I just went to Best Buy to pick up a copy of Mr. & Mrs. Smith, and the director's cut of Donnie Darko. One of these days I need to get some proper DVD shelves instead of the carboard box I currently use. I saw some nice ones at IKEA that I might go back and get sometime. I can't go to IKEA alone though - it is was too big and confusing.
I really wanted a new bunch of flowers, but the Whole Foods florist section was bare. I suppose I'll have to wait until after Valentines to be able to find something. Sigh. I need to finish cleaning my room anyhow before I get any more. The roses I had last time lasted for weeks and weeks. I just ended up getting some lunch and a cherry coke.
Now I'm home, watching Extreme Home Makeover and this has to be the worst tear jerker of the bunch. They are rebuilding a house for a Marine who took off running to do volunteer rescue work at the Towers on September 11th. The best part though is when they get a bunch of Marines to demolish the house by running around kicking things to pieces. I'm sure ABC and all these companies get big tax write offs and advertising revenue for this show, but I can't help but like it. As opposed to most network reality shows where people are rewarded for bad behavior or eating bugs, this show does something constructive. Regardless of how over the top Ty Pennington gets or cheesy the editing can be, the end result is something good.

Date: 2007-02-12 10:05 pm (UTC)And I can't go to IKEA alone because I'm always tempted to buy things that can't possibly be fitted into my house. At least at Crate & Barrel the prices mitigate the buying impulse.

Date: 2007-02-13 12:37 am (UTC)I'm tempted to buy a TON of Swedish foodstuffs to use for baking. Also, it makes me want a house right now right now to fill with furniture. The only thing though is that I have not seen a bed frame there I like.

Date: 2007-02-13 01:17 am (UTC)I'll go to IKEA with you if you're looking for someone to go with. :) I'm always looking for an excuse to go there and I'm familiar with their layout.
