is it more of a "time and place" kind of thing? or is more a disliking of the dog friendly nature of Austin which does not heavily restrict a dog owners ability to bring their pet with them into most places?
It has to do with time and place. I think it is inappropriate to bring a dog to a restaurant in general, though I understand the law now allows them on patios. Last night my beef was with a woman carrying around a yipping, agitated chihuahua in a store packed with several hundred people in the middle of the night. It didn't seem like a dog well adjusted to crowds and there was potential for upset or disaster.
(Plus I can't stand little dogs like that!) :P I tend to think people with annoying yip yap dogs like chihuahuas are often the more entitled and obnoxious about being able to carry the dogs into any place even when the animal has a poorly suited temperment or is not trained. When I worked retail I more than once had to clean up dog piss or shit because someone thought it was okay to let their dog loose in the bookstore.
