too hot to be out so much

threeplusfireBecause I am silly, I did not check my email this morning. Instead I rushed out the door to catch the bus to campus. On the way I saw Bob, late for work, hah. Nothing like being able to get away with coming in at 10am with an enormous deal on the table.
On campus I discovered that the weather today is humid and murderously hot as I trekked up to Calhoun. The university is replacing the grass on the South Mall, so it is emerald green and roped off so no one disturbs the vegetation.
Turns out Hana wound up staying home today, which I only discovered after thirty minutes of wandering. I hiked back to the bus, came back to North Austin and hopped in the car. she has a beautiful house, I love going over there. All these windows, a yard, lots of growing things and bird feeders. We talked for a little while about school and things.
Played with the boys while she made some phone calls for me and wrote out a recommendation. Tomorrow she has to take her youngest in for surgery. His ear drums are collapsed and he can't hear very well at all.
When I got home, I flipped on the news and heard that Katharine Graham died today. She was one of the greatest newspaper executives of the last hundred years, and perhaps one of the most outstanding women in the field. Graham guided the Washington Post and built it into one of the best major dailies in the country. Katharine Graham was one of my heros. Godspeed, Mrs. Graham.
