I have a question about this, one that's wholly unrelated to the larger issue. I haven't seen the illustration(s) that precipitated this latest series of events, and I want to know: Is it the characters being represented in the illustration, or the actors who play those characters in the films? In other words: Is it Snape giving fellatio to Harry Potter, or Alan Rickman giving fellatio to Daniel Radcliffe? It won't color my perception of this event one way or another -- unwanted deletions are unwanted deletions, no matter how you serve them up -- but I can't quite get my head around this thing, and I'm looking for all the info I can get.
It is Snape going down on an obviously older Harry Potter. At least, that is my assumption because the Snape didn't look at all like Rickman. (And I've seen Alan Rickman naked! :P ) What makes it so crazy is that the Harry Potter drawn in the picture looks to be between 16-20 anywhere, and most certainly does not look like a child.
Regardless of how anyone feels about fanart, I'm really appalled that the LJ Abuse team suddenly thinks they are the arbitrators of artistic merit! It makes me worry that Nemeth's art could fall victim, or even photography by fine people like you. (Though I have an ugly suspicion that much of this is indeed veiled homophobia.)
On an unrelated note, I am getting your picture of the trees against the sky framed and hung up in my library.
You're right, of course -- about the abuse of power, and I suspect the homophobia as well. It had occurred to me that if it were the actors depicted in the drawing, the law would back up the artist: Both men are of legal age.
I'm sure Six Apart will get around to me soon enough. I use the "F" word like it was going out of style. When they do, I'll archive my posts and move elsewhere. No fucking checkbook liberal is gonna tell me how to think.
