king ranch kitty

On my eight mile drive between home and the office I saw five car accidents and had to swerve twice. It started raining around 4:30, but I can't say anyone should be surprised because it was cloudy all day long.
Tonight's dinner was king ranch chicken, which for some reason came out so much better than my first attempt. I think it was the ratio of tomato and the use of crunchy corn chips instead of tortillas. Whatever mystery, be it the garlic and pepper I put on the chicken or the weird combo of cream of chicken and mushroom and onion soups, it was damned tasty. We followed it up with slices of
brienze's lemon cake which was superb and lemony delicious. I am really glad she gave us extra slices. Yesterday Mike finished up the leftovers and said the cold brisket without any barbecue sauce was the greatest brisket he has ever eaten. High praise in the South. Mmm food.
Koshka came out to watch us eat, sitting under the table. I think he wanted our chicken. He has learned the sound of the treat bag and meowed insistently at Mike to give him a second one. I like the way he bumps my leg with his head and purrs loudly. It is so surprising to see him so affectionate already. I was just positive we were going to have to wait weeks for this behavior. But I think it is confirmation that my gut feeling was right, and that he was meant to be our kitty.

Date: 2007-09-05 03:24 am (UTC)And I'm glad Mike liked the brisket! I'd semi-ruined or ruined two briskets before that, so I was hoping third time would be the charm. I was determined to learn how to smoke brisket without buying a smoker. =) It was also good crumbled up in beef broth with ramen and spinach (the closest thing I had to bok choy, which wasn't close at all but was at least green).
And chocolate pie for breakfast is a thing of beauty. =)
