San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders speaks about his decision to support gay marriage

Dear Mr. Sanders,

I did not think I would ever see a speech by a political figure that moved me to the point of tears. I cry at commercials but not speeches. However I was deeply moved by your decision to come forth and announce your change of heart publicly and honestly. I cannot imagine how hard this must be as a public figure and politician. You have probably already received some unpleasant notices from members of your community for your change of heart. I hope that won't deter you from your resolution. I hope you know that people far away from your voting district heard you, applauded and cried just like me.

I can only hope that your actions will inspire others in your profession to examine their principles and actions closely. I hope that you will never regret this speech, or your choice.
