Koshka does not want his medicine. He bit the hell out of the fleshy part of my palm and clawed up Mike. We're trying to mix it with wet food now, because I can't find any other way.
You might try having it turned into a liquid and then squirt it into his mouth. That's what I did with Flame and it worked well enough. There's an apothecary on Black Angus Rd. right off of Duval (just behind NI) that can take any pill form medicine and compound it for you.
Ignore my last post! I just read your previous post and this is what you're already doing. I thought you were trying to shove pills down kitten's throat. My mistake.
Does the medication come in any other form? Dot's started out as a human sized capsule filled with powder (the pull-apart Tylenol type capsules that were tampered with back in the 80s)... we were told to mix it with wet food. Dot, freak of nature that she is, doesn't like wet food. We tried pouring it into pill pockets, which she did like right up until we pulled that trick. After the first time she bit into the powder center she's refused to touch them again, even with the solid pills she used to take in that form. We've had to go back to holding her belly-up, wrapped in a towel, to administer the solid pill.
At this point I called the vet's office and asked if the med comes in any other form. They said no. I took the capsules to Peoples Pharmacy and had them formulated into cat treats where the powder is homogenized, and she doesn't like those either. But they're a more manageable size and shape for a cat's throat, so upside-down towel-wrapped cat now gets one solid pill and two cat treats shoved down her throat.
Yesterday I talked to the original vet who prescribed the stuff, who says that why yes, it's possible to give it through a weekly injection. *eyeroll*
Having to buy the same stuff again would kinda suck, but it sounds like getting something that works is more important. If you can get a cat-sized pill, popping it in is probably faster and safer than trying to force-feed goopy stuff.
*comfort* Tell Mike I'm a mass of scratches too (I'm the cat-holder, Rick's the pill-popper). Some scratches are in visible places that could lead people to draw conclusions about my sex life. I hope your hand doesn't get infected.
