oh it is question time again

Questions from [livejournal.com profile] devilindupriest

1) What is your secret comfort food that you only eat in private?

Well, until they burned down, it was going to Buffet Palace on Anderson Lane. I would read a book and eat tons of the wontons, little eggy pancakes, mussels, egg drop soup, sesame chicken, sweet and sour shrimp and a billion other delicious things. The restaurant burned down several months ago, and they never rebuilt, which I found truly bizarre. (It always won best Buffet each year in the local alternative weekly, and they constantly had business. I suspect they did not have insurance.)

2) If you could go back in time to live in any historical time period, when and where on earth would it be?

This is surprisingly easy for me to answer. Revolutionary Russia in the beginning of the 20th century. I can't imagine many other periods of world history in which the entire world swung in the balance and the change wrought in those years. I believe pretty strongly that the events of that time period changed the world as fundamentally as the advent of Christianity. I wish I could see it happen, smell the smoke, walk in the crowded, dirty, angry streets. I wish I could see the dying glory of the Russian aristocracy and eat picnic lunches at Lake Baikal. TO me, it is one of the most fascinating periods of history I've ever learned anything about.

3) If you could only take a small backpack with you, what would you bring?

Well, I'd take some antibiotics, some notebooks, a digital camera, a 9mm and ammunition, and something I could turn into cash once I traveled back in time.

4) Who is your favorite author?

Josef Skvorecky, without a doubt. He has a lyrical gift that imbues his words with an intensity and grace that blows me away. I've never read an author who filled me with such emotion, from the lazy joy of summer and youth to unbridled laughter in the dark to deep and poignant grief for a world lost. I love him.

5) Relaxing in a sensory deprivation pod, no light to distract you, no noise except a gentle whiteness to cover your own heartbeat, floating serene and weightless in skin temperature water, all signs of the physical world removed, what do you think about?

I think in that situation I might completely freak out and have a panic attack. Ugh.

Hah! I love the new wording of the instructions for this meme.

1. Leave me a casual comment of no particular significance, like a lyric to your current favorite song, or your favorite kind of sandwich, maybe your favorite game. Any remark, meaningless or not.
2. I will respond by asking you five personal questions so I can get to know you better.
3. Update your LJ with the answers to the questions.
4. Include this explanation and offer to ask someone else in your own post.
5. When others respond with a desultory comment, you will ask them five questions.

I can't resist this game, even though no one ever plays over on my LJ.

I think that means your LJ friends are lame!

1. Are there any decent coffee places in your new town?
2. What exactly are you doing at the bookstore job?
3. I'm sort of baffled that your office doesn't have a break room. What improvements can you suggest for your building?
4. Is there anything worth watching on TV? I need something to watch other than reruns of Cops
5. What is your favorite kind of candy?

[identity profile] cjwriter.livejournal.com 2007-10-04 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
song lyrics:
"a bathroom I can play baseball in" and the part about the quesadilla from Nickelback's Rockstar. I'm obsessed with that song at the moment.

My favorite kind of ice cream is dark chocolate with brownies from Maggie Moo's.

So does that mean anyone who comments in this thread runs the risk of having to do the meme? I just wanted to say your answer to #3 rocked -- eminently practical.

[identity profile] tsarina.livejournal.com 2007-10-04 01:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Hahah, I'm glad you liked it.

As far as your question, it is a grey area of possibility. But if I were to ask you questions they would be things like this:
favorite potato dish?
favorite casserole type item?
favorite dessert?
favorite comfort food?
favorite breakfast item?

haha.

1. Since the whole "insulin resistant" thing I don't eat potatoes nearly as often... do pierogies count?

2. Chicken pot pie... which is sort of cheating, I know, but the fussy Rick-person doesn't tend to like casseroles so I don't get to make many.

3. Spritz cookies. Cookies in general really, though I'm less fond of the nut-involved.

4. Lasagne, which is even MORE comforting if there's already one made up in the freezer, ready to bake.

5. Quiche. I love quiche. I also love the egg souffles from Panera Bread, but I hardly ever manage to be awake and down to Bee Caves Rd before they've sold out for the morning. We need a Panera up north! Oh, and I go into breakfast taco withdrawl when not in Texas. I guess I just like breakfast a lot. =)

Perfect comment.

1. If you could skip town tonight, where would you go?

2. What have been the biggest changes of this year for you?

3. Have you read the newest Murakami book? If not what have you read recently that I should read?

4. Do you feel like you have a safety net, or are you out in space?

5. What is your favorite kind of dessert?
