give me your recs

Alright, I know many of my friendslist are more knowledgeable than me. I love Ghost in The Shell, and Vampire Hunter D. I've watched Lain and I grew up with the original Aeon Flux shorts on Liquid Television. What I want are recommendations for your favorite anime, manga, etc. Tell me. Share! I need things to watch.

I actually also like Naruto, but am not sure you would love it. Instead, enjoy my Naruto icon!

Given that our tastes appear eerily similar in animation, film, and book stuff, here is a list of some of my favorite animes of all time (I have bolded the ones I think would be great for you to start off with):

FLCL, Samurai Champloo, Paprika, Paranoia Agent, Elfen Lied, Noein, Bleach, Blood+, Noiseman Sound Insect, Eureka 7, Trigun, Cowboy Bebop, Beck, Death Note, Ergo Proxy, Fullmetal Alchemist, Gilgamesh, Neon Genesis Evangelion, RahXephon, Millenium Actress, Samurai X: Trust and Betrayal, Mushi-shi, Ruroni Kenshin (the "sequel" to Samurai X), Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, Witch Hunter Robin, Tsukuyomi Moon Phase, The Twelve Kingdoms, Dead Leaves, Afro Samurai, Otogi Zoshi (and I'm sure there's more but I've probably totally overwhelmed you by now!)...

You can go to AnimeNewsNetwork.com to get a synopsis of any of the above.

Be forewarned: I like dystopias! And unhappy endings! I love anime so much and am probably a full-on otaku. Feel free to talk to me about it any time. :D

Dystopias! Is there anything more fabulous on screen? Thank you thank you a million times for your recommendations. :D

The pleasure is all mine! I don't get to talk to too many people about anime, so this is exciting.

I may have forgotten to include Wolf's Rain, which is incredibly daft of me. You should definitely see that one. And Fullmetal Alchemist. ASAP.

Which reminds me... two of the names we'd picked out come from animes. If we had a girl, she would have been named after a Wolf's Rain character. A boy's name we've been thinking about comes from Trigun, one of my favorite series of all time (it is amazing, but a lot of people have trouble with the drawing style).
