I woke up at my old alarm time this morning. How quickly that becomes painful when you get used to sleeping a bit later. My grandmother gave me a Victoria's Secret card and the in-store sales started this morning. Unfortunately, the nearest store is in the Domain shopping center. The Domain is packed with stores like Michael Kors (am I the only person who hates his clothes?), Sur La Table, Tiffany and Louis Vuitton. I'm not sure I could go there during regular hours when all the rich people are around. Luckily it wasn't too busy when I got in, so I was able to snag a half dozen bras, a couple pairs of underwear, a new bathrobe and some of that fancy underwear/nightgown stuff you only wear so someone else takes it off you. Oh, and two tubes of super awesome mint lip gloss.

Then it was off to the county tax office for the filing of the marriage license. That went very quickly, as there was almost no one there when I arrived. The clerk even told me there was a new Social Security office up north, so I didn't have to drive downtown. It's a beautiful office, probably the nicest government office I've seen in ages. It's located in the sketchy part of town I used to live in, east of 35 and north of 290. I waited an hour in there, listening to at least a half dozen crying infants and counting prison tattoos. After all that, I couldn't bear the thought of spending another hour waiting at the DMV to update my license. That will have to wait til tomorrow at least.

Foolishly, I accomplished all these things sans cafe. My head aches wickedly and I'm looking forward to lying on the sofa with a big cup of coffee and my book.

Did you go to the tax office up on that hill, with the gorgeous vista? We went there to transfer our car title and get new plates, and it was seriously the nicest governmental office I've ever visited.

We need to visit the DMV, too, to get TX drivers' licenses and to change our last names. It's been over a year since we got married but we just haven't gotten around to it yet.

I did! It was very pretty and I was so surprised when they guy told me it was two years old. It's not been trashed yet! And the employees have that gorgeous skylight in their blue cubeland.

But... but... Sur La Table is awesome! They have everything there, and if they don't have something, they can tell you where to get it. (Srsly, I wanted pasta plates and their employee said "We don't have what you want but I'm pretty sure World Market does", and indeed, they did.)

The asian chicken salad at California Pizza Kitchen is also very much worth it, if you like that sort of thing. And there have been a fair number of grubby (ie, normally dressed) people there whenever I've been, though I've never ventured into Neiman Marcus.

It does make me sad though that I have to deal with insane parking just to go to Borders now.

Oh man, I was glad the store wasn't open. I wouldn't have failed in my vow to buy very little this month. From what I could see from the window it looked amazing and full of "omg want want want" things.

Next time you want to go to Borders or Sur La Table or the pizza kitchen, let me know. It might be less scary with someone else. ;)
