Police have arrested a man who barricaded himself inside a North Austin house. George Purdy, 38, surrendered peacefully after police negotiations at 2:25 p.m., said Joe Munoz, a spokesman for the Austin Police Department.
Purdy was wanted on a Kendall County charge of sexual assault of a child and a criminal trespass charge from the same county, Munoz said.
When officer arrived to arrest him, he barricaded himself inside his residence in the 11500 block of Ptarmigan Cove shortly after noon, police said.
------
I don't know what to think about George and his situation. As the years go by, the stories I hear from friends and former coworkers have gotten weirder. The last time I had any contact with him was almost three years ago, and weirdly touched on the situation his warrant was for today. I'm not sure what to say about it. I don't think George is a bad person, but he has bad judgment and bad coping skills. Over the last several years, he has made a lot of significantly bad relationship and girl-related decisions. He is looking at charges in this situation that could conceivably land him in jail for the better part of the rest of his life if he was convicted. Whether or not he should be in jail, I do not feel I should speculate. I only know what I know, and it is only a little of what is a complicated story.
It is just sad.
