Today would have been a perfect lazy Sunday. We ate pizza and watched movies. There was relaxing on the sofa, and laundry in the dryer.

Except that the hot water fixture in our shower broke, and gallons of steaming hot water continued to pour out the faucet. We had no way of turning it off. So we called the emergency maintenance line. A few minutes later, the maintenance person on call for our apartment calls, to inform us he won't be coming out. He basically told us we were shit out of luck.

Why? Because this is the guy we made a complaint about several months back. The guy who told me: "But m'am, your dishwasher isn't broken. The soap dispenser isn't supposed to open all the time." The guy who was rude and aggressive on more than one occasion. The guy who refused to fix the hole in my apartment ceiling caused by rats.

I made Mike call the service line again, and go to the office. I was so angry I was shaking. Fortunately the girl working in the office called the maintenance guy and made him come out. By the time he got here, the water had been running nonstop for close to two hours. The office girl came along to "supervise" the situation. So he managed to stop the water flow, but of course he's not willing to get a part on a Sunday to fix it. So now baths or showers until sometime tomorrow when the capable, decent maintenance guys can come out.

All this after nightmares about living in a Stepford Wives situation. Ugh.

Does the guy have a supervisor? He's already going to be petty so you might as well write another letter, containing all the problems you've had with him, even the ones you already wrote about, but focusing on this.

And the petty.

1) Make sure this is all (your side, that is) documented in writing.

2) Go have a nice "chat" with the complex manager. Both of you.

3) Check your lease to see what would be considered grounds for them breaking your lease which would let you leave w/o consequences. You might check with the Austin Tenant's Council (http://www.housing-rights.org/) for advice/assistance.

4) Start looking for a new place. I would for damn sure not renew a lease after this.

I sure hope you're not paying for water, on top of all this.
