Need to find a job before I turn into an old school Austin slacker type. Yikes. It feels like all I've been doing is watching music videos lately.
Sent my resume off, looking through the ads. I could be a security guard, drive an armoured truck, pack frozen foods, read flood plain maps, stock groceries, work the front desk in a hotel... Such are the options. I pointedly ignore the jobs designed to make me insane, like working in the mall. The market in Austin is pretty harsh right now. This so called 'economic slowdown' has done some odd things to the local job market, mostly because we have so many spectacular dot com failures. Lots of unemployed tech people having to branch out into new fields. The only good thing is that some of the apartment rents have come down.
I won't mind so long as I get a laid back job that pays my bills.
Poor livejournal. It seems to be suffering. However, I will refrain from posting rants in my journal. I'll just shake my fist at the screen every now and then, and go on my way.
The internet is an excellent complement to my life, but it certainly is not my life. All the copious complaining I see tends to annoy me a bit. Sure, some of us pay for this when we could get it for free. But I see that as more of a gift to the people who maintain this site for me. I don't expect livejournal to act like a massive coporate entity that promises 24/7 service at the lowest possible cost. One of the reasons I love livejournal is that it isn't like that at all. It's human, in a way. It breaks down, and it gets fixed.
It's okay. Livejournal is my friend. I like it. Saves me from losing random pages all over the house and from throwing out all the stuff I don't want to see. The delete key has never been as satisfying as burning an entire notebook.

maybe you could find something like that? is there any little place that you go where they seem like they could use an extra hand? or are you looking for "career"?
Re:
Date: 2001-07-31 08:54 am (UTC)I wish I could work in Forbidden Fruit and sell toys. ;) That would be fun. But I suppose what I really want is something quiet, no customers involved.
My career plans are to become a grad student, just like you and Warhol! :D
