chocolate buttercream

Today, I made my first homemade buttercream icing. It has intimidated me too long. It's butter, how bad can it be? All things are easier with a stand mixer I think. Need more silicone spatulas though. I baked a devil's food cake of dark, sweet deliciousness, then covered it in chocolate buttercream.




It's a chocolate buttercream cake! Sitting on top of my liquor cabinet! Because the kitchen is a mess and full of boxes!


This one was done with the flash so you can see the shiny gloss of the buttercream. Mmm shiny. There's also over fifty dollars worth of change sitting in the wooden bowl and my NYC cup. One of these days that will go to the bank.


A lame self portrait taken yesterday of me. I look puffy, which is unfortunate. My hair is in that annoying between state, too long and too short and entirely in the way. I am sorely tempted to shave my head due to the heat and annoyance. (The CEO of the dot com I work for wanted to make a blog post about the end of quarter and our sales, so he requested everyone send him a photograph of themselves wearing something green. I think he's going to make a big mosaic.)



Meanwhile, I have chores and packing and things to do. I could use a nap though.

Homemade buttercream is the best. And it's surprisingly not that difficult; it's just that all the sifting of sugar is time-consuming.

We have a shoebox in our bedroom that's filled with three years worth of change.

Actually, your hair is the perfect length for putting up in pincurls (bobbypins for day wear, pronged pins to sleep in) or wearing curly. That'll shorten up the length to keep it off your neck/face and it'll be fun fun cute!

Lard has its place - in biscuits, refried beans and sometimes pie crusts. But not in icing! Icing is made of cream. Mmmm.
