august glass

August feels as though the world is made of brittle, sharp glass. The heat is radiant and slowly growing unbearable, and everything is starting to soften. Being outside this afternoon made me feel a little sick and as if I was melting as well. I'm ready for the season of yellow grass fires and soft asphalt to be over. I could use some days of rain and respite from the sun.

August I can deal with; growing up, it was always the hottest month. What freaks me out is September, when I'm supposed to start wearing long sleeved shirts, close-toed shoes with socks, and it's still 105F out.
