books and more books

There is this awesome blog, Fashionista Piranha, that I have only just now discovered. (If you knew of it and didn't tell me, no pie for you!) There are book reviews every week, and right now there's a Neil Gaiman contest with most excellent prizes. I encourage you to check it out.

It also led me to a brilliant, thorough review of Twilight that highlights all the reasons the sparkling Mormon vampires and sleep walking characters make me want to retch.

I have not been reading as much lately. I think it is all the craziness of packing and moving. I am so looking forward to finally building a library though. Especially because I won't have to move it again for a really long time.

I didn't even know about these Twilight books until 14 year-olds started trying to add me in droves on here & Myspace. And then recently someone noticed my nickname and asked me if I was a fan of the books, and I said no, I've had this nickname for 16 years. Yikes, that's before or when most Twilight fans were born.

Well, thanks for posting this because now I really have no desire to read them. The dialog alone sounds inane; reminds me of teenage lolspeak. Instead, for teenage vampire characters, I'll finally get around to reading Sunshine in my queue and hope it's better.

do you sparkle in sunlight?

oh man, that must be crazy. I didn't even think about that aspect, with your nickname.

What's perhaps worse than the teenage Twilight fans are the Twilight mom fans, who won't hear anything negative spoken about them at all. Eesh. Way to give your kids positive examples.

I guess at LEAST they're reading. But I hate to think what's gonna happen when the movie comes out. Bring on the droves!

What exactly is the competition? The blog does not specify. I get that submissions must write *something* but I'm not sure what they're asking a write up of. Is it a review of anything that Gaiman has written?

Basically it is like throwing your name in the hat - leave a comment on the entry to get one ticket, friend the blog to get another, etc. She is encouraging folks to leave comments to encourage discussion on her book review posts in the blog. The more comments you make - the more entries in the hat you have. Hope this clarifies!
